Ciutat Vella, meaning “Old City” in Catalan, is the vibrant and historic soul of Barcelona. Enclosed by remnants of ancient Roman walls and steeped in centuries of culture, it’s a captivating blend of medieval charm and contemporary energy.
Wandering through its labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets, you’ll encounter gothic cathedrals, sun-drenched plazas, artisan shops, street performers, and lively tapas bars tucked into centuries-old buildings. Each corner tells a story, from Roman ruins to revolutionary street art.
Ciutat Vella is made up of several distinct neighborhoods, each with its own personality:
El Gòtic (Gothic Quarter): Home to stunning medieval architecture, including the majestic Barcelona Cathedral and the historic Plaça Reial.
El Raval: A multicultural hub brimming with art galleries, vintage shops, and trendy cafés, as well as the contemporary MACBA museum.
El Born: Stylish and creative, known for its boutiques, wine bars, and the impressive Santa Maria del Mar church.
Barceloneta: A lively seaside neighborhood with sandy beaches, seafood restaurants, and a relaxed coastal vibe.
Living in Ciutat Vella means immersing yourself in the essence of Barcelona — where the past and present dance in harmony. It’s a place where you can sip coffee in centuries-old courtyards by day and join in the city’s vibrant nightlife by night. Despite its central location, quiet corners and local markets offer a slower, more intimate pace of life.
Ciutat Vella welcomes you with history, culture, and an unmistakable sense of place.
