The Shaw neighborhood is east of the U Street corridor and is one of the city's hippest up-and-coming areas, with attractions like the shops and eateries at The Shay and the Atlantic Plumbing complexes and bustling cafes like Compass Coffee and La Colombe. The southern end of Shaw gives way to the high-end shopping mecca of City Center DC and the retail-filled Penn Quarter and Chinatown neighborhoods.
The dining and bar scene in Shaw sizzles, with new spots opening up on 7th and 9th Streets and in the neighborhood's quirky, historic alleyways. For every-day needs, there are multiple bodegas, pharmacies, and grocery stores within walking distance.
