Neighborhood · Boal

Boal is a welcoming rural town in western Asturias, surrounded by mountains, rivers, and chestnut forests. Known for its honey, historical heritage, and beautiful landscapes, it is a place where both residents and visitors can enjoy nature, culture, and community life.

Community & Culture
At our rural coliving and community space, residents can take part in a free weekly activity designed to bring people together — from ecological farming workshops to cultural gatherings. We also promote creative projects and initiatives that connect tradition with innovation.

PitaFesta
Every summer, Boal hosts PitaFesta, a unique rural arts festival that combines music, theater, workshops, and community life. With artistic residencies, concerts, local markets, and shared experiences, it has become a cultural highlight of the region.
This festival is organized and funded by the Association that manages our coliving, showing a strong commitment to cultural revitalization and rural visibility.

An Active Village All Year Round
Boal stands out for its wide range of free activities organized by the Town Council and local associations, such as:
• Cultural and sports workshops.
• Concerts and theater performances.
• Excursions and guided routes.
• Activities for children and families.
This dynamism makes Boal a very special place to live, with a strong and participatory community life.

History & Heritage
• Pre-Roman hillforts (castros): Boal and its surroundings preserve several fortified settlements that reflect the presence of pre-Roman communities, such as the Castro de Pendia, one of the most important in Asturias and declared a Historic-Artistic Monument.
• Indiano heritage: Like many Asturian towns, Boal experienced significant emigration to the Americas during the 19th and 20th centuries. The return of the so-called Indianos left behind an important architectural legacy in the form of grand houses and palaces, still visible today in the town center and nearby villages.

Nature & Outdoor Activities
• Walk the Ruta de los Molinos, a charming trail that follows old watermills.
• Visit the Doiras Reservoir for peaceful walks or birdwatching.
• Discover the Navia River and its beautiful surroundings.
• Enjoy the Castrillón recreational area, perfect for a picnic with mountain views.

Local Flavors
• Learn about the region’s beekeeping tradition at the Casa de la Apicultura.
• Taste honey, chestnuts, and fresh produce at local fairs and markets.

Living in Boal means enjoying a slower pace of life, with countless opportunities to connect with nature, history, art, and community — whether through the weekly activities at the property, the free events offered by the Town Council and associations, the heritage of its hillforts and Indiano houses, or the vibrant cultural celebration of PitaFesta.
