The Pier

I stayed at the host's coliving for just under a month (had to cut my trip a bit short, but the team was super understanding and helpful about it!), and I only have incredible things to say about the place and the experience. That's the thing about the host — it's not just a place to stay. That's what makes it magical. Even when my stay was a lot shorter than I'd like (but anything that's not moving here would feel short in this place!), the island and the host's coliving have become a home to me.

The Island
Goto itself is an incredible place, so you're starting from a great setting already. Beautiful nature (beach, local mountain, rivers, fields, nearby islands, coastlines...), delicious food (local udon, local beef, seafood, and other local specialties), and plenty of activities thanks to all of it. This is proper countryside Japan, so come with that expectation — and embrace it.

The Space
The host's coliving itself has everything you need: clean, comfortable, and well thought out. The bed is comfy, the common space is spacious, and the kitchen is well equipped. Showers and toilets are shared, but I never ran into any issues, and there's a washing machine on-site too, so laundry is easy.

It's located on the 2nd floor of a coliving, with a cafe on the ground floor where locals gather and work — so you have the option to work from the apartment or head downstairs for a change of scenery (wifi is solid, no issues with calls or streaming the whole time I was there). It's also conveniently close to a big supermarket, a konbini, local museums, and the main shopping district — 10 minutes on foot from the port, and 10 minutes by car from the airport.

What Makes this Place truly Special
Comfort is guaranteed, and with the island setting, your stay is bound to be great no matter what. But what makes this place truly special is the people.

From the moment I booked, the team was accessible, cheerful, and helpful. Beyond that, they have what they call "community managers" — local people whose whole role is making sure your stay is the best it can be. They connect with residents and locals giving you a chance to enter into the island life and culture, invite you to plans, and genuinely help you get to know the island. You don't get this kind of experience and these kinds of connections anywhere else (or at least, I haven't found it anywhere else so far) — you can tell the team really cares about building mutual understanding and connection with the island. And wow, they manage to create a space where that experience is actually possible. That's priceless.

The host's coliving attracts an incredible mix of people too — digital nomads, travellers, foreigners, and Japanese residents alike. Honestly, everyone I met during my stay made me think, "Wow, this person is incredible, I really want to get to know them."

From the day I arrived, there were countless activities, and most importantly, I felt like I was making real friends — not just with other residents, but with the island itself. The island is full of incredible people, and I feel so lucky I got the chance to meet them.

To anyone thinking of staying at the host's coliving: I'm a bit jealous (and really happy for you :) )

I stayed for a month; wish it was longer! This island is wonderful. Calm and relaxing, filled with lovely people, nature and activities. The team at the host goes out of their way to help you have a fantastic experience.The place is clean and has all you need for a comfortable stay. WiFi was fast; I was able to work and do calls. Downstairs there’s a cafe with a large coworking space too if needed.Absolutely planning to come back!

Stayed at this host for a bit over a month. The island is such a peaceful and relaxing place to be.The house itself was great - it's on the first floor of a coliving. Clean, spacious, modern. Kitchen is really well stocked, laundry is easy to access, 2 showers for the house. Each room has its own desk. There's a projector for movie time.Workspace-wise, you can either book the conference rooms for free via the coliving reception, work at the cafe downstairs (many people stay for a very long time there with 1 drink), or work from your room.The place was walkable distance to the grocery store, drug store, conbini, and a few restaurants.The highlight for me was joining events with the wider community. There's a sizable community of Japanese who have moved to the island, creating a lovely community.If you speak Japanese, it's a great opportunity to practice. And if you don't, there are community managers and other coliving residents who are English-speaking as well.The island is also a beautiful place in itself. If you're a Ghibli fan, highly recommend visiting a local museum and then exploring the island. You can really see the influence of the place in the artist's work.

Great location, with a café downstairs that’s perfect for getting some work done, a convenience store just a 5-minute walk away, a supermarket and drugstore about 7 minutes away, and the pier is only a 10-minute walk from the house.

The common area is cozy and well-equipped, with a projector and a speaker that make movie nights enjoyable. The rooms have plenty of natural light.

Beyond the space itself, what truly makes this place special are the people. The local community managers are warm, welcoming, and always ready to help you connect with locals, discover hidden gems, and make the most of your stay.

All in all, it’s a peaceful and quiet place to recharge, slow down, and experience the authentic charm of Japan.

Had an amazing experience when I stayed there the whole month of September 2025. Great organization, met super nice local people, intimate and cosy place to stay, beautiful hikes and little restaurants. 100% recommend to discover a more rural and authentic Japan 🥰🥰🥰

We stayed at a coliving for a month, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. What truly makes this place special is the local community. People are incredibly welcoming, always ready to help, and genuinely invested in creating a strong, supportive environment. Digital nomads are warmly embraced, and that sense of care is felt from day one. We even had a large Discord group that included both residents and locals, so whenever a question or issue came up, there was always someone willing to help. We shared karaoke nights, delicious barbecues, Chinese bao making, beach sunsets, lots of food experiences, foot onsen, aromatherapy, lots of fishing, and coworking days in different cafés and workspaces around the island. One of the highlights was the Christmas party we organized together. It was simple, warm, and full of genuine connection, perfectly reflecting the spirit of the community. December is an especially lovely time to visit, as the island is quiet, peaceful, and beautifully calm.

The coliving space itself is thoughtfully designed and beautifully styled, inspired by the idea of a pier. The interior is clean, modern, and very comfortable. The rooms are spacious, with extremely comfortable beds, a large mirror, a clothes rack, and a desk with a chair, making it ideal for remote work. The shared living area is cozy and spacious, and the common area even includes a projector, creating a fantastic atmosphere for group activities. One room can be a bit too little for couples, but the organizers try to make your stay as nice as possible.

The kitchen is very well equipped and makes cooking easy. It includes a microwave, kettle, and toaster, all matching in a stylish white design, as well as plenty of dishes, kitchen cloths, and basic supplies. There are two shared showers, which worked well during the stay. Cooking dinner together was amazing and we made it a lot.

The coworking space is located in the same building and is set up more like meeting rooms. While it does not have much natural light, working from the café downstairs is completely acceptable, even if you only order one coffee, which many locals do as well. The Wi-Fi was excellent throughout all buildings, with no issues during video calls or remote work.

The location is extremely convenient. It is within walking distance from Fukue Port and close to a Matsumoto Kiyoshi, a supermarket, a Lawson convenience store, and another drugstore. Historic streets, museums, and the Goto History Museum are all nearby and can be easily explored on foot. The ferry terminal is only a five-minute walk away, and the space is located in the center of the island’s main town. While having a car or motorbike is helpful for exploring further, the community is always willing to help with rides when needed.

The owner and the residents are incredibly kind, and it truly felt like a place you would want to stay long term. Overall, this coliving offers a rare combination of comfort, thoughtful design, excellent facilities, and a genuinely warm community.

It is within walking distance from Fukue Port, and there is Matsumoto Yoshi, a supermarket, a convenience store, and another drugstore nearby, making it very convenient.

Nearby, there are residential streets, museums, and the Goto Historical Museum, all of which can be visited on foot.

The interior is very beautiful and stylish. The room was spacious enough. The bed was incredibly comfortable.
There is a large mirror, a hanger rack, a desk, and a chair in the room, which was also great for remote work.

The microwave, kettle, and toaster are all white BalmuDA, and there are plenty of dishes, cloths, and plastic wrap, making it easy to cook for yourself.

The shared space also has a projector, creating a fantastic atmosphere.

The owner and the residents of the coliving were very kind, making it a perfect place for a long-term stay.
