A Hidden Gem in the Mountains of Fukuoka, Japan
Perched at the very top of a small mountain hamlet in Yame, our place is a lovingly restored 100-year-old Japanese farmhouse surrounded by rolling organic tea fields and vast terraced rice paddies. Once abandoned for years, it has been transformed into a cozy, creative living space by travelers and locals working hand in hand.
Here, time slows down. Guests share meals, stories, and tea with the host family, enjoy the changing seasons, and immerse themselves in the rhythms of rural Japan. The house offers traditional tatami rooms, communal spaces for work and relaxation, and breathtaking mountain sunsets.
We are not just an accommodation; we are a community hub for cultural exchange. Digital nomads, artists, and nature lovers will find it an ideal base for both focused work and deep rest. Whether you’re looking to join a tea farm tour, learn about Japanese rural life, or simply live in harmony with nature, this is the place to do it.
We welcome travelers, remote workers, artists, and nature lovers from all over the world. Our typical residents are individuals who value cultural exchange, slow living, and authentic rural experiences. They often stay for weeks or months, contributing to the local community while enjoying the peaceful surroundings of tea fields and terraced rice paddies.
**What Kind of Community Are We Building?**
We are creating a small, friendly, and open-minded community where locals and international guests can connect naturally. It’s a place to share stories over a cup of local green tea, cook together in a traditional kitchen, and exchange skills—from language learning to farming know-how.
**What Is Our Mission (Community Wise)?**
Our mission is to create a living bridge between rural Japan and the rest of the world. We aim to preserve our region’s natural beauty and traditions while offering a welcoming space for cultural exchange, creativity, and collaboration. Whether you are seeking inspiration, new friendships, or a slower pace of life, this is a place to feel at home while being part of something unique.
About the Neighborhood – Kurogi & Kasahara, Yame
Our place is located in Kasahara, a peaceful mountain hamlet within Kurogi Town, Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture. This area is famous for producing some of Japan’s finest green tea, known as Yame-cha, and is surrounded by lush mountains, crystal-clear rivers, and scenic terraced rice fields.
Kurogi retains the charm of rural Japan — small family-run shops, historic shrines, and friendly neighbors who still greet each passerby. The pace of life is slow, and the air is fresh, making it an ideal escape from the city.
From spring’s cherry blossoms along the buriburi Park to autumn’s vibrant foliage in the surrounding hills, each season offers a different beauty. Local festivals and tea-harvesting seasons give visitors the chance to connect with the community and experience authentic Japanese countryside traditions.
While secluded, the area is accessible by car and offers day-trip opportunities to Yame’s traditional white-walled merchant district, local hot springs, and the larger cities of Fukuoka and Kumamoto.
