As travel in North Korea is strictly guided and securing a visa is a challenge in itself, visiting Pyongyang is one way for you to witness what goes on in a North Korean metropolis. One of the most notable landmarks you can visit is the Ryugyong Hotel, an unfinished structure that was supposed to open back in 2012. It’s a unique sight in the city, as this building has 105 floors, is made of glass and metal, and the whole structure itself has a pyramid shape.

Another structure also worth checking out is the Tower of Juche Idea. It honors the North Korean philosophy of Juche and this tower is made up of 25,550 blocks of granite. The number of blocks symbolizes the number of days in Kim Il-Sung’s life and it was unveiled during the late ruler’s 70th birthday.
