Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya in the 15th century and is one of the best-preserved coastal Mayan cities around. Although you can’t live in Tulum, you can live near it, making it a great coliving choice for any digital nomad. Tulum is one of the most-visited archaeological sites in Mexico, receiving over 2.2 million visitors a year. The ancient city has massive defense walls built around it and is perched on the edge of a steep cliff wall to keep invaders out.

Since you can’t live in the ancient ruins, where can you live? Well, there are little small towns located just outside of Tulum or your best bet may be to look for coliving options near the city of Cancun. Cancun is only a short drive away from Tulum and is home to much of the nightlife and restaurants in the area. There is so much beauty surrounding the Tulum area from lush pristine beaches to the offbeat path in the jungle nearby. When you’re looking for a quiet restaurant to sit down and grab a warm meal, then Cancun is your best bet. Here you’ll find endless bars and nightclubs that stay open until the early hours of the morning.

You don’t need a car in these areas to get around, in fact, all you would really need living near Tulum is a bicycle. There is a public bus system that runs from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen and Tulum is a stop along the way. These buses are cheap and they’re efficient too. When you need to get away for a little, the Cancun international airport is only a short distance away. Here you will find non-stop flights all over the world, mostly to North and South America.
