You can host on Coliving.com as a private individual or under a registered company. The right choice depends on local tax law, the scale you're operating at, and whether you want to separate personal and business finances. This guide gives you the trade-offs, not legal advice — when in doubt, talk to a local accountant.

Hosting as an individual

This is the right fit if you're:

Renting out one or two rooms in your own home.
Hosting occasionally rather than as a primary income source.
Just getting started and want to test the model before formalising.

What it means in practice:

Payouts go to your personal bank account.
Income is taxed under your personal tax return.
Invoices to residents are issued under your name.
VAT/GST usually doesn't apply unless you cross a national threshold.

Hosting as a company

This is the right fit if you're:

Running several properties or operating professionally.
Required to register a business under local law for short/medium-term rentals.
Above the VAT/GST threshold in your country.
Wanting clean separation between personal and business finances.

What it means in practice:

Payouts go to a business bank account.
Income flows through your company books, taxed at corporate rates.
Invoices include your business name, registration number, and VAT/GST where applicable.
You can deduct business expenses (cleaning, maintenance, software).

How to choose

Three questions help most hosts decide:

Does local law require a business registration for what I'm doing? If yes, host as a company. (Common in cities with short-stay regulations.)
Will my annual coliving revenue cross the VAT/GST threshold? If yes, a company structure is usually cleaner.
Am I scaling beyond one property? If yes, a company protects you legally and makes accounting easier.

If you answered no to all three, individual hosting is fine to start.

Can I switch later?

Yes. You can change account type at any time:

Go to Account settings → Hosting type.
Upload the new documents (business registration, VAT number).
Submit for re-verification.

Existing bookings stay attached to your account — only future invoices reflect the new structure.
