Schaerbeek is a melting pot of architecture and culture in the northeastern part of the Brussels region. Remote workers are eager to find coliving spaces in one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Belgium.

Schaerbeek is home to several museums including Train World, a rail museum featuring some really old, restored trains. For a unique experience, you can visit Little Anatolia, a Turkish area with a brilliant flea market and lots of Turkish street food to try.

Traveling around is easily done by bike - a trip into the Brussels city center is no more than 15-20 minutes. As a part of the Capital region, Schaerbeek is a part of Brussels’s comprehensive bus and tram network. Although commutes are quite easy, taxis are readily available and are useful for late nights out. Josaphat Park is a nice place to visit year-round - a great place for friends and family to gather and in May visitors can visit the on-site greenhouses and get some gardening tips.

There is some great Turkish and Moroccan food to try around town, as there are many residents of Turkish and Moroccan descent. Schaerbeek is home to several Michelin Star restaurants, including one with Spanish-North African fusion. Van Dender Chocolatier is an award-winning chocolate maker and not to be missed.

Here are some fun facts about Schaerbeek:

- The city is legally bilingual, speaking both Dutch and French
- Schaerbeek’s name is thought to come from the Old Dutch words meaning “notch” and “creek”
- It is nicknamed “The City of Donkeys” in tribute to the farmers who would arrive at the marketplace on donkeys to sell their sour cherries - you can still find both donkeys and sour cherry trees in town
- It is very close to NATO’s headquarters
- Tombs and coins dating back to the second century have been found in Schaerbeek
