Also known as the “fervent city,” Liege is the fifth largest city in Belgium. With it’s perfectly warm but not too hot summers, it’s no surprise digital nomads are fervent about enjoying coliving spaces here.

The ideal mode of transport depends on where you’re situated. In the city center traveling by bike or foot is easiest. Cycling is a big deal in Liege - it’s the only city to have hosted stages of all three cycling Grand Tours: the Giro d’Italia, the Tour de France, and the Vuelta a España. Outside of the city center, a car is ideal due to the urban layout, but busses are also accessible.

The city’s most famous festival celebrating the Virgin Mary is called Le Quinze Aout - literally meaning “August 15,” the event is full of live performances, a flea market, and games. Climb the Montagne de Beuren, ranked as one of the world’s most extreme staircases - it’s great exercise and the panoramic view of the city from the top is worth it.

There are so many different kinds of Belgian waffles - for example, Liege waffles are denser with uneven edges and are known to be sweeter than Brussels waffles. Jupiler, a famous Belgian beer is brewed just outside of town in Jupille-sur-Meuse. No European coliving experience is complete without some amazing cheese, which Liege has plenty of.

Here are some fun facts about Liege:

- An odd tradition amongst the large student population is begging for money so they can buy drinks during the Saint Nicholas festival at the beginning of December
- Charlemagne, King of the Franks and Roman Emperor is said to have been born here
- Being in the French part Belgium Liege celebrates Bastille Day, the French national holiday, every year
- During occupation during World War II, locals protected most of the town’s Jewish population by hiding them in the many monasteries
