Colombo is the commercial capital and largest city in Sri Lanka. The blend of urban, coastal, and Buddhist life provides fun opportunities for digital nomads looking for a new coliving spot. The cost of living is fairly low - a little over $400 per person per month, not including rent.
Getting around town is simple - top choices are bus, tuk-tuk or taxi. If you choose to go by taxi or tuk-tuk, they usually won't use the meter so it’s important to negotiate a fee before departure. One thing to note is that there is no international airport in Colombo. It’s in Katunayake, which is a 30-60 minute drive away.
The first noticeable things in town are the temples - there are many beautiful Buddhist and Hindu temples to explore. There are plenty of hikes, beaches, and diving opportunities in the vicinity.
The temperature in Colombo is about the same year-round in the mid to high 80s. There are two monsoon seasons - from April to June and September to November. Expect to get wet during these times as there’s an average of 98 inches of rainfall per year!
Sri Lankan cuisine is divine. With many fish, meat, and vegetarian curries there are endless options for all visitors. There are always tasty meals a few yards away from a great coliving space. With so many options and if you love to eat you should try a street food tour.
