The neighborhood of La Mercè is delimited by the following streets: Ardena, Joan d'Alós, Torrente Barrina, Finestrelles, and Torrent de les Roses, which cross it sinuously. Its construction responds to the social concerns of certain estates linked at the time to the traditionalist Spanish Falange and the JONS.

This construction is the first action carried out by the Obra Sindical del Hogar in Barcelona. The construction works, which also included the urbanization of the area, lasted from 1948 until almost the end of the sixties. When democracy arrived, its neighbors firmly bet on a change of name for the neighborhood to eliminate its historical link with the recent dictatorship, and they adopted the name of the patron saint of the city. The houses are on the ground floor and one story high, and to save the slope of the land, they are located in small streets with an irregular layout, which gives the walker the feeling of having momentarily moved to a space far from the city.
