Interlaken is one of the oldest resort towns, nestled in the Bernese Oberland, between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Making it an excellent place to try a more relaxing style of coliving. Although more commonly known as a holiday destination, any digital nomad wanting to experience a bit of luxury and nature will love it here.
The whole town is looked over by the three giant mountains of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Made up of old timber houses, it has parkland on both sides of the River Aere and is home to a small population of 5000. Unfortunately here you're much more likely to make friends with holidaymakers than locals, but the surrounding nature scape is perfect for the more adventurous remote worker. From glistening glaciers to colorful meadows, it's a chance to take a deep breath between work hours. The Swiss have made it easy to explore the area using the 45 mountain railways, as well as excursion ships to see the lakes. Experiencing the historic paddle streamers is a must.
However, the real secret of Interlaken is the fact it's a hub for paragliders. Just 6 miles away is the perfect south looking slope, which has the best views. The area around the lakes is also well suited for Canyoning, due to the magnificent waterfalls and gorges ready for exploration. And a highlight of every winter in Interlaken is the ice rinks they set up each year. The entire place becomes a world of ice. You'll be able to while away a number of evenings gliding across the ice. The biggest downfall of Interlaken, like many coliving places in Switzerland, is the cost, but for a shorter stay, this is the perfect place to relax and stay active, whilst enjoying nature surrounded by people looking to enjoy themselves.
