Alicante is a port city in Spain’s Costa Blanca, with over 120 miles of beautiful Mediterranean coast. This holiday paradise is a favorite spot for remote workers looking for the next stop on their coliving adventure.
As the birthplace of tapas, food is kind of a big deal here. As a large rice-producing region, one should try paella here - it’s traditionally cooked by men and eaten at lunchtime. Locals also have two similar dishes worth checking out - arroz a banda and arroz al horno. Seafood is king on the coast but there is no shortage of options for those who want to be fish free.
One of the city’s landmarks is the Santa Barbara Castle, which sits atop a hill and provides a stunning view of the city on the sea (free admission). The city greatly supports the arts and boats countless events and festivals featuring jazz music and street performers. Don’t expect to do much on a Sunday, though - Sundays are for relaxing! Ibiza is only a short, direct flight away. Flights around Europe are quite affordable so options for weekend getaways are limitless.
Alicante is a pedestrian-friendly city but does offer decent public transport. Car rentals are available but to enjoy the city like a local, a scooter would be ideal.
The climate in Alicante is enjoyable. Thanks to the sea, there is not much change in temperature throughout the day. Temperatures range from the low 60s in the winter to the high 80s in the summer. The summers are warm and sunny with little rain.
