Community

Our community brings together professionals, remote workers, and students who value both independence and genuine connection. Typical residents include software developers, consultants, researchers, digital nomads, and graduate students seeking temporary housing for work assignments, studies, or life transitions.

The environment balances personal space with opportunities for meaningful interaction. Instead of organizing forced activities, the focus is on bringing together like-minded individuals who naturally appreciate one another’s company and professional pursuits.

Most residents stay for one to three months and share common values around productivity, respect, and curiosity about new places. Many are in transitional phases—relocating for work, waiting for permanent housing, attending programs, or exploring Portugal through the D7 visa process.

With only a few residents at any time, connections form naturally. People often work side by side in the common space and explore Madeira together. The small scale ensures an atmosphere where everyone knows each other, without the impersonal feel of larger accommodations.

The community emphasizes quiet enjoyment, professional growth, and cultural exchange. High standards of respectful living, cleanliness, and consideration attract residents who value a quality environment and understand that a strong community is built on mutual responsibility.

Top Questions

Will I have privacy?

Absolutely. Every Bond apartment is completely self-contained with your own private kitchen, private bathroom, and private living/sleeping area. You have your own front door with keyless access and can come and go as you please 24/7.
Your apartment is entirely yours during your stay - no shared bedrooms, bathrooms, or kitchens. The only shared spaces are common areas like hallways and the coworking space when it opens.
We respect your independence and won't disturb you unnecessarily. We only enter apartments for scheduled maintenance (with advance notice), emergency repairs, or the optional bi-weekly cleaning service.
You control your level of community interaction. Some residents prefer to keep to themselves, while others enjoy connecting with fellow residents. Both approaches are perfectly fine.
The building layout ensures you can go about your daily routine without feeling overlooked or interrupted by other residents.

Are pets allowed?

Yes, we LOVE pets and have rescued a range of animals that we have at home from Dogs and cats to turtles and goats so long story short pet are permitted but with prior approval from the Bond Team just to make sure we know which furry pal will be joining you.

Can I split the rent with my partner or a friend?

Absolutely! We totally get that splitting rent makes things more affordable, especially for longer stays. You can definitely share the cost however works best for you both.
Just keep in mind that we'll need to put one person as the main contact on the lease - they'll be the official responsible party for payments, communication, and making sure everything runs smoothly. Think of them as the "lead tenant" while the other person is welcome to stay and contribute however you've arranged between yourselves.
We just need to know who our main point of contact is for any apartment-related stuff. Both of you will still need to go through our normal application process and we'll want to meet you both, but legally speaking, one person holds the responsibility.
Most couples and friends find this works perfectly fine - you split the bills however makes sense for your situation, and we have one clear contact person for any admin stuff.

Is there a designated space for work?

Yes! We have a dedicated coworking space that's open 24/7 for residents only. It's got everything you need - proper desks, ergonomic chairs, blazing fast WiFi (600mbps+), coffee and refreshments, and that professional atmosphere when you need to get stuff done.
The apartments themselves vary - some have dedicated desk setups while others are more flexible spaces where you can work from the dining table, kitchen counter, or even your bed if that's your style. Each apartment has strong WiFi throughout, so you can basically work from anywhere that feels comfortable.
The coworking space is perfect for video calls, when you need to focus without distractions, or just when you want to get out of your apartment and be around other productive people. Plus it's residents only, so you won't have random people wandering around - just your Bond community.
Some residents love mixing it up - coworking space for meetings and focused work, apartment for the casual stuff, or even the Skyline's massive roof terrace when the weather's nice!

What types of people will I be sharing the home with?

Actually, you won't be sharing your home with anyone! Each Bond apartment is completely private and self-contained - your own kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, the works. You're not sharing living spaces like a traditional coliving setup.
What you ARE sharing is the building and community workspace with other residents.

Will I get the same room as on the photos?

The room you will be assigned might differ slightly from the photos but will match the room type. You are booking a room/bed by type, not a specific unit.

Can I tour the property first?

You don´t need to tour the property, and here is why:
- Properties on Coliving.com have pictures and a clear description of the community, rooms, and common areas. Most of them also have 3D or video tours.
- Restricting viewings provide equal opportunities for everyone, whether you are a local or live abroad. Plus, it preserves the privacy of our coliving communities.
- If anything is unclear, you can easily reach out to the property by clicking "Contact host" and ask for more details. Make sure your questions are not already covered in the description or the FAQ section.
- Coliving.com makes sure the coliving property is as advertised, by only sending any money to the operator 24h after you have successfully moved in.
- If the property substantially differ from what is advertiser, you report it to us and we will help you find another place.

My booking has been accepted, now what?

Booking

What information do I need to supply for the application?

Nothing too crazy - we just need the basics to make sure you're a good fit for our little community!
Here's what we'll need:

Government-issued photo ID (passport, national ID, or driving license) - just email us a clear photo
Written confirmation of why you need temporary housing (work assignment, study, relocation, etc.) - helps us understand you're here for legitimate residential reasons, not just tourism
Proof you can legally stay in Portugal (visa, EU passport, whatever applies to your situation)

We might also ask you to tell us a bit about yourself during the application chat - what you do for work, where you're coming from, that sort of thing. We're not being nosy, we just like to know who's joining our community since we keep things small and personal.

Can I extend or shorten my stay?

Extensions are totally doable! After your first month, we can do weekly extensions as long as the space is available. We actually love it when people want to stay longer - means we're doing something right!
We try to give current residents first dibs on extending before offering the space to new people, so just give us a heads up when you're thinking about it.
Now for shortening stays - this one's a bit trickier. If you book for a month but need to leave after 2 weeks, we can't refund the remaining time. I know that might sound harsh, but we're a small operation and when someone books a month, we turn away other potential residents for that period.
We get that life happens - family emergencies, job changes, whatever - but financially we just can't absorb those costs. Think of it like booking a hotel or flight - once you've committed to the time, that's pretty much it.
Best bet is to be realistic about your timeline when booking. If you're unsure, maybe start with a shorter stay and extend rather than booking long and hoping to shorten.
We're always happy to chat through your specific situation though - every case is different!

Amenities

What potential costs are there besides the rent?

Honestly, not much! Your rent includes utilities, WiFi, weekly laundry, and bi-weekly cleaning - we're pretty all-inclusive.
The main extra costs would be:

If you use crazy amounts of electricity (like running AC 24/7) - we cover up to €150/month, anything above that you'd pay
Extra laundry cycles beyond your weekly one
Additional cleaning if you want it more than bi-weekly
Damage fees if you break stuff (obviously)

That's pretty much it. No surprise bills for internet, water, electricity, or cleaning under normal use. We hate hidden costs as much as you do, so we keep things transparent.
Most residents never pay anything beyond their monthly rent unless they specifically want extra services.

Are all rooms furnished?

Are all rooms furnished?
Absolutely! Every apartment comes completely furnished and ready to go - you literally just need to show up with your suitcase.
Each place has everything you need: comfy bed with quality linens, dining table and chairs, fully equipped kitchen with all the cookware and dishes, couch or seating area, wardrobe for your clothes, and all the basics like towels, cleaning supplies, even coffee to get you started.
The level of furnishing varies a bit between apartments - some have dedicated desk setups, others are more flexible spaces. But every single one has been thoughtfully set up so you can live comfortably from day one without having to buy anything.

Community

Is there a house/community manager?

It's Steve and Rui - we're the father and son team who actually own and run Bond! So you're dealing directly with us, not some distant management company.
Steve handles most of the day-to-day stuff like check-ins, maintenance requests, and resident questions. Rui's involved too, especially with welcoming new residents and the bigger picture stuff.
We're pretty hands-on but not intrusive. We respond quickly to messages, sort out any issues fast, and genuinely care about making sure everyone has a great experience. Since we live locally, we're always available if something urgent comes up.
It's more like having helpful local hosts who actually know the building inside and out rather than calling a call center somewhere. Much more personal and way faster to get things done.

Safety

Can I lock my bedroom door?

Absolutely! Every apartment has its own front door with keyless entry that's completely private to you. Your entire apartment - bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, everything - is behind that locked door.
Since each apartment is self-contained, you're not sharing space with other residents, so your apartment door IS your bedroom door lock. Once you're inside, it's 100% your private space.
The keyless system means you can come and go anytime without worrying about keys, and nobody else has access to your apartment. We only enter for scheduled maintenance with advance notice or emergencies.

Is the neighborhood safe?

Very safe! Central Funchal is one of the safest areas in what's already one of Europe's safest destinations. You can walk around day or night without worry.
Rua da Carreira is a quiet residential street but still central to everything. It's well-lit, has regular foot traffic, and locals are friendly and helpful. Portugal in general has very low crime rates, and Madeira even more so.
We've never had any safety issues with residents, and many tell us they feel more secure here than in their home cities. The biggest "danger" is probably getting too comfortable with the relaxed island pace of life!
Standard travel sense applies - don't flash expensive stuff around, stay aware of your surroundings - but honestly, you'll probably find yourself relaxing about safety pretty quickly once you're here.
