Sausalito is a small city spelled with a variation on the Spanish sauzalito, meaning small willow grove. Here remote workers can enjoy peaceful coliving on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge. With a population of only 7,000 people, it’s a great place to enjoy everything San Francisco has to offer with a relaxed small-town, seaside vibe.

The main sights visible from town are the marina and the Golden Gate Bridge. The quiet town has many outdoor activities, most notably, forest and beach walks, mountain biking, and boating. There’s also a nice dive shop in town if you want to go a little deeper. Day trips around the bay area aren’t too far, with Santa Cruz only 82 miles away.

For a small town, there are still many great restaurants - many of them offering some of the best seafood around. Alternatively, the entirety of San Francisco’s gastronomy is only a short ride away.

The climate is consistent with the rest of the bay area - many more sunny days than the national average, with cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers - a perfect spot for coliving.

Sausalito is small but it is advisable to gauge your endurance before deciding to purchase a bike - most of the town comprises of hills. Consider a compromise by getting an e-bike for that extra push. Due to the hills, almost every resident owns a car - but there are options to get into San Francisco by bus and by ferry.

- It was a center for bootlegging in the prohibition era. The city’s proximity to San Francisco made it an ideal location for distribution.
- Shortly after World War II, several houseboat communities developed along the shore. The wealthy people on the hill overlooking the waterfront didn’t like the disrupted view and some even sabotaged boats! Many of these residents are associated with the hippy, artistic or musical communities.
