Named after the massive redwood tree, Palo Alto is Spanish for “tall stick”. For many years techies have been enjoying the benefits of coliving spaces in Palo Alto while they work on their next big idea for Silicon Valley. Now everyone can visit this technological hub, extend their network, and enjoy everyday life in California.
Like most of California, Palo Alto is very car-centric but offers a great bus system along with some free shuttles to the Stanford University campus and other attractions. If you’re downtown this area is very walkable. The city is very flat and offers many “bike boulevards” to cycle along.
You’ll quickly notice that most attractions are in fact on the Stanford campus, including the hoover tower, several galleries, and some gardens. Off-campus there are many other attractions including tech-related museums, a farmers market, and a beautiful theatre from the 1920s.
Coliving spaces play a key role in growing the tech community where people can share ideas, help each other out, and develop their products. The beautiful California weather certainly helps keep spirits high.
Food is a way of life in Palo Alto, as is coffee. Talk to any coffee snob on the street to find the best places to grab a fresh drip or a cold brew. While the town doesn’t have a uniquely local dish, there is no shortage of great food from all cuisines. Have some Ethiopian, hummus or pizza, they’ve got you covered.

- Donkey from Shrek lives in Palo Alto - the horse they used as a model, of course
- Though not open to the public you can visit and look upon the Hewlett-Packard garage, which many consider to be the birthplace of Silicon Valley
